A Little About Me

  • My biggest fear in life is being bored.

I spend every day chasing ways to stay engaged, inspired, and active. Whether I’m interacting with someone who is working on exciting new ideas or riding my motorcycle to work, I’m in constant pursuit of the next adventure.

  • I believe science needs to be shared.

One of my foundation’s goals is to promote science communication to the public so that everyone has a chance to engage with exciting discoveries and new ideas. We also look for ways to support communication within the industry, like distributing grants to university students so that they can share their work at conferences.

  • I like figuring out how things work and how to fix them.

I love both physics and technology, which has helped me get pretty good at figuring out what’s wrong with something and how to fix it. It doesn’t mean I always will, but when something breaks, I enjoy trying to figure out if I can fix it myself instead of paying someone else to do it.

  • I seek out places I've never been before.

When I’m planning a vacation, the first question I ask myself is: “Where haven’t I been”? And once I get there, I try to see as much as I can. I eat at local spots and look for the museums that are unique to that place, with things you can only see there.

WHO I AM

People describe me as..

  • Forward-Thinking

I’m always looking for ways to update things that are outdated and address the flaws that make systems inefficient. I think it’s important to revise how we think and do things when we find a better way.

  • Generous

I’m very willing to share my time and advocate for others. My friends and family know I’ll always answer the phone when they call. You never know when a small amount of your time could be a life-changing experience for someone else, so I try to prioritize making myself available to others whenever I can.

  • Social

I enjoy being around people, even if I’m not always the most talkative person there. I especially like being around people who share my interests, like science, technology, photography or philosophy. Science and technology are always my preferred topics of discussion; science, in particular, always plays centerstage in my social conversations.

  • Opinionated

I spend a lot of my time listening to books and podcasts, watching videos, and learning from others. I’m very curious, but that goes hand-in-hand with me forming strong opinions. I’m not afraid to go against the grain.

  • Problem-Solving

I really enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to solve problems, and every time I solve a problem, I get better at it. For example, after many moves in my life, I mastered packing luggage like it’s a game of Tetris. And when I realized I wasn’t good at taking notes in college, I sat in the front row with a recorder.

“The most successful people in STEM are simply ambitious, adaptable, and persistent. There are no Iron Man’s. If you come from a struggle, it makes you a better STEM professional because you’ve already overcome that struggle. Usually STEM is not harder than that."
