A Little About Me

  • I want to keep coral reefs beautiful.

It’s devastating to go scuba diving on a bleached coral reef. I grew up seeing healthy reefs with bright colors and countless fish. Over time, more and more of them are dying. It’s my mission to help coral reefs thrive not only because of the benefits to marine ecosystems, but also so we don’t lose these incredible underwater beauties.

  • I am multiracial, which sometimes made me feel like an outsider.

I was raised by a German mother and a Thai father, so it’s always been difficult to truly identify with one or the other. I never felt like I completely fit in. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to appreciate all of the different parts of myself and the influences of my parents and cultures. It’s become less important what others want to label me as, and more important that I embrace my full self.

  • I see sustainability as a fascinating and important challenge.

I once worked on a project that involved using algae to make biofuels (a type of “green energy” source), and I’ve always been interested in how to make processes more sustainable across our lives. One of my long-term personal goals is to build an ecolodge with my brother, who is an architect, so we can challenge ourselves to find sustainable solutions to the needs of everyday life.
