A Little About Me

  • I'm constantly challenging my understanding of the world.

I find new ideas and possibilities exciting. I’m drawn to spaces of discovery, where I can think freely or encounter new concepts that I may never have considered before. I love coming across ideas that turn my understanding of reality on its head, and figuring out what to do with that.

  • I grew up in a small-town, multicultural family surrounded by farms.

I was raised by a Singaporean mother who encouraged me to try a little bit of everything (especially at dinner time), and my dad, who came from a long line of farmers. He lived by the motto, “If you’re going to do something, do it well”. The blend of cultures helped keep me curious and open to different vantage points.

  • I’m easily distracted and can have a hard time staying focused.

I find so many things interesting, which can make it difficult to keep my attention on just one thing. That’s part of why I always preferred hands-on learning in school over more traditional classes. It’s also why my work involves so many different dimensions. My work is an extension of what I’m curious about; whatever catches my eye.

  • I'm very patient when it comes to getting design right.

I don’t like to take shortcuts in my work, as I think there’s a lot of power in the details. I thoroughly research my projects to make sure they’re the best blend of functional and beautiful - whether I’m cultivating my garden or creating an experience for someone.

  • I seek a wide variety of inputs and influences.

I like to surround myself with a diversity of thoughts and perspective, types of people, even eras of thinking and philosophy. I source from everywhere, gathering ideas and chasing curiosity, especially at the meeting point of science, technology, and art. And I love getting into deep conversations with friends about it all.

MY ADVICE

“I like to let my brain go, and just do its thing. There’s nothing more valuable than ideas.”
