Tips from jessica brillhart
  • Don't get too stuck in how things are right now. They're going to change. If you want to work in technology, you have to keep your mind open and commit to continue learning so that you can adapt as things evolve. Let your mind imagine things that don't yet exist, and explore new possibilities. You might be part of creating them.

  • In innovation spaces, it can be tempting to just keep inventing new products simply because we can. We have to remember that the technologies we produce could have a real impact on society and humanity, and even our planet. The people doing this work need to understand psychology, politics, philosophy, and history – just about everything – because technology can have an impact on everything. It's exciting, but it's also a big reponsibility.

  • You don't have to become a programmer, but it's important to build the skills to do the work you care about. When I got into immersive filmmaking, I made sure I understood the basics so that I could collaborate and help guide the project. It also helps you understand the realities and limits of the technology you work with, even if you're on the creative side. Plus, the more technical skills you have, the more power you have to create things the way you imagine them.
