Tips from Shalini Nemani
-
There are lots of different ways to do great work in STEM, and many of the jobs you’ll enjoy the most are hard to find. Don’t be afraid to have honest conversations with people in the field that you are interested in. Ask them for an “informational interview” where you can learn about the challenges they face and the kinds of roles that do the work that interests you. It’s important to get the whole story.
-
When you feel connected to your work, your goals, and the way you spend your time, that’s when you show up as your best self. It’s worth getting to know your strengths and interests and then looking for jobs in STEM that will align best with them.
-
Wherever you are, there are going to be a lot of people around you with a lot to share. Make sure you’re asking them questions and soaking in everything you can learn from them. Don’t limit your curiosity to just one field or job type. You never know what you’ll learn if you keep a curious and open mind.
